Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Environment

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Environment. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary, it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Environment|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Environment.

The turnover indicates significance, but although I can find many mentions of it existing, I can't find evidence of WP:ORG or WP:GNG. Boleyn (talk) 21:27, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

  • Comment: Boleyn, can you describe the "many mentions" that you found during your WP:BEFORE search, so that other editors can benefit from what you've disovered? — Toughpigs (talk) 22:53, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

  • user:Toughpigs, it's mainly just websites confirming its existence and with a small amount of info [1] and as for news coverage, the best include a very brief name-check in Jewish Life News [2]. Boleyn (talk) 12:48, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
  • Keep. More than enough 3rd-party sources to verify its existence. So it comes down to notability, and I'll believe its claims of national significance. --Lockley (talk) 23:15, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
user:Lockley, you are right that it definitely exists, and why do you believe its claims of national significance? It may be the case, just I haven't been successful in finding sources that prove it. I'm a bit worried as well as it reads as if it was written for promotion, and when I looked at the creator, he/she is an WP:SPI. Boleyn (talk) 06:30, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Boleyn:. Here's my reasoning, such as it is. Cielo does exist, which sounds dumb to say, but that's compared to many of the articles in the deletion queue, whose subjects hope to substantiate themselves by having a wikipedia page. Not the case here IMO. This article has straight objectively factual content, was never loaded with glorious promotional adjectives and claims, so the fact that the creator was an SPI with a possible COI seems less important to me. So the question narrows to notability. The nature & amount of the independent coverage discovered here and here and here, considered along with the company's own description of its impact on its industry, is convincing enough for a "keep". I wouldn't bet the ranch on it either way. hope that helps --Lockley (talk) 15:29, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Going CoastalEdit

Going Coastal (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD · Stats)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · newspapers · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · NYT · TWL)

I don't see how this meets WP:GNG or WP:NCORP. Sourcing in the article either isn't independent, isn't significant coverage, is unreliable, or the link doesn't work. With that said, I searched google books, finding this Journal of Commerce that mentions it in passing, a mention in The New Yorker (looks like a routine listing of their event as far as I can tell). On google there are various charity listings and Wikipedia mirrors, none of which establish notability, and this, which barely counts as a book review-- I don't think it even mentions the book. I then checked my universities databases, and found exactly one passing mention. Newspapers.com is a little more promising, with some passing mentions (mainly this AP article), but that's again not enough to establish notability. The article further has a very promotional tone. It's possible (though unlikely) there could be enough coverage based upon how many different sites use the title 'going coastal', and the article has been around since 2005, but I just don't see a pass of NORG or GNG. Borderline, hence it sitting in CAT:NN for 11 years. Doesn't meet WP:BIO - he went on many expeditions and wrote one book, but none of that makes notability. I have to admit ignorance when it comes to how significant the mentioned Swedish Church medal and Royal Orden are - they are the only signs this may be notable. There is some coverage, including in a national newspaper, but not enough to meet WP:GNG. Boleyn (talk) 08:37, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Colombian plastic surgeon turned environmentalist. Some minor coverage. Fails WP:SIGCOV and WP:BIO. Has an article on another Wikipedia, es. scope_creepTalk 12:02, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

  • Keep The important thing about this doctor is his work as an environmentalist, participating in Colombia's environmental policy. I am going to refine the article by focusing on this facet. There are many references in main colombian newspapers with interviews. He has published several books and is quite popular on Colombian television, in addition to having received important awards in his country. He is also an outstanding activist --3erres (talk) 15:46, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
  • Keep: references are from relevant media: Diario El Tiempo, El Espectador, Radio Caracol, in addition to the Titanes award. Perhaps it requires a cleaning to be more encyclopedic.--Pesca59 (talk) 19:52, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

No notability whatsoever. A WP:BEFORE garnered lots of hits for a vacuum, but didn't show anything in the way of RS for this organization/event. Kbabej (talk) 16:30, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
