File:Hick Hargreaves and Co. Ltd. advert.jpg

HI JJMC89. Can you check this file to see whether it's the same as File:Advert for Hick Hargreaves & Co. Ltd.jpg which you deleted per F7 on August 28? This file was uploaded a few days later, but I've tagged it with {{di-disputed fair use rationale}} because its non-free use still has WP:NFCCP issues.

If it's a different file, then no big deal; if it's the same file, however, and was just re-uploaded under a different name, then maybe it would better to discuss at FFD if the other file's deletion was challenged on its file talk page (if you feel that will help clarify things). -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:29, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

They are the same file. The previously uploaded one did not have the deletion notice contested on the talk page. — JJMC89 02:58, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Bot task for inactivity

Out of curiosity, how much faff would be involved in setting up a task with your bot for keeping track of inactive BAG members much like it does for admins? I know the criteria are a lot more open-ended, but I guess searching through an editor's contribs for edits to anything on these pages would be a start (at least do the majority of the check work). Thoughts? Primefac (talk) 13:57, 30 August 2020 (UTC) (please ping on reply)

@Primefac: Coding shouldn't be difficult. The hard part is defining the criteria in a way that a bot can interpret. Going off links in a template or category would work. If BAG can define the bot checkable criteria, I'll look at coding it. I also have a task for intadmin activity that posts to WP:IANB when one is inactive, instead of tracking it on a page like is done for admins. — JJMC89 02:52, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
Cool. I'll see what the BAGs think and get back to you. Primefac (talk) 17:42, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello JJMC89,

I would be very grateful if you would repair the Template:FloraBase. It directs to that has been replaced by Unfortunately, this change will necessitate change to at least 1,000 plant articles that direct to the deadlink, unless I can figure a shortcut (eg. to Eremophila simulans) or your repair will fix the problem.Gderrin (talk) 01:11, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

New Page creation

Hello sir , you have deleted a page on 22nd April 2020 named 'Sayak Chakraborty. And I saw there are lots of Indian news sources. So I just wanted to edit the article. But there is showing that "If you wanted to creat this article then please first contact the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below". So I thought that I should talk to you. So can you please guide me what to do right now ?? Waiting for your valuable answer. Link:- Draft:Sayak Chakraborty Bijoyonline30 (talk) 16:02, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Please study the edit summary 09:54, 30 August 2020 and other information on the rationale as per WP:IMAGERES. Thanks Rstory (talk) 11:20, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
What Photoshop says doesn't matter. The dimensions are right there on the page. — JJMC89 04:58, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
Adjusting the rationale in accordance with WP:IMAGERES, 'where the pixel count approaches 1 megapixel, will very likely require a close review to verify that the image needs that level of resolution. Editors should ensure that the image rationale fully explains the need for such a level of detail. You also may wish to add the non-free no reduce template to the image rationale page to indicate that your image resolution purposely exceeds the 0.1 megapixels guideline, though this still requires you to include a valid rationale that explains this reasoning.' Rstory (talk) 14:35, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi JJMC89. Would you mind taking a look at some of this IP’s edits to file pages? A couple I’ve looked at like File:Alfa Romeo logo.png involved either replacing a non-free licenses with a {{PD-self}} ones or adding “PD-self” license to non-free files. No explanation is given for this so it’s not clear if it was a misunderstanding or that the licensing actually needed changing tweaking. It could be where someone added a non-free file to a page, had it removed for some NFCCP reason, and then thought that changing the file’s licensing would make re-adding the file OK. I only noticed this because the Alfa Romeo logo mentioned above was discussed at FFD a few years ago and I still had the file on my watchlist. — Marchjuly (talk) 21:01, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

The IP either doesn't know what they are doing or are being disruptive. I don't think any of the edits were legitimate. — JJMC89 02:45, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look at this. It appears that most of the edits have been reverted and the IP has been inactive since August 24; so, perhaps this is no longer an issue. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:32, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Saw you managed to edit the above page. For consistency, can you edit to replicate Take The Time, it's a duplicate of a redirect, it's a miscapitalisation rather than a song. Cheers. Thanks. --Richhoncho (talk) 19:17, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Speaking of these redirects, since I guess it's better than me making another ~40 fully-protected edit requests, think you'd be able to go through the articles in mainspace in Category:Wikipedia fully protected pages and remove their pp-protecteds, wrap them in a shell? Most have redirect reason templates already, so that makes it a few-seconds job, some don't. Can ignore anything in module space, project space, etc., so really it's just about ~40 pages (not all 130). ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 19:33, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Abdu Gusau

It appears that you merged Draft:Abdu Gusau into Abdu Gusau. So far, so good. We only needed one page, and it appears that the originator is trying to game the system by creating it twice. The article has been in article space, and in draft space, and in article space. It is now in article space, but is unreviewed. My question is: Did you intend to be reviewing it, or did you intend to be leaving it in article space unreviewed to get the opinion of another New Page Patrol reviewer?

Either way, the article is in article space and is not reviewed. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:22, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

@Robert McClenon: I intended to leave it unreviewed and let NPP handle it. I history merge more pages than I have the time or familiarity with the topic to properly review for inclusion. — JJMC89 20:56, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Just letting you know about Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2020 September 5#Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1046#File deletions by Jonteemil as a courtesy since you've started closing some of the FFDs that Jonteemil started on August 14. Some people seem to be advocating that all if not most of the files he nominated on that day be restored. I'm not sure whether that DRV applies to files he added to FFD on that day or just the specific ones listed in the DRV. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:13, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Your bot is broken

Dear Mr. JJCMC89:

I was trying to add the file "Bristol VA and Bristol TN flag.gif" (flag of the twin cities of Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee) to Bristol, Virginia, but your bot flagged it as being on a page with "no valid non-free use rationale".

I doubt that's true, since the same image is used on Bristol, Tennessee page without any problems.

Please fix this problem or take the bot offline for repairs.

-- (talk) 02:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi IP The bot is not broken. It's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. The problem is that you're adding the file to an article without also providing a corresponding non-free use rationale for that particular non-free use on the file's page. This is a common mistake than many editors make, but it's still a mistake. For a more detailed explanation, please see my response to your question about this at WP:MCQ#Broken bot - flags fair use image as being used on page with no valid non-free use rationale. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:44, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Liyann Seet Deletion Review

Dear JJMC89,

I just realized that the article has been deleted due to the following proposed reasons: (1) Not a notable individual. A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. However, there are significant coverage on the individual in reliable secondary sources. (2) overly promotional article: Propose not to delete article. Propose to write article in a factual way.

As the individual has significant coverage in reliable secondary source, I proposed to review the deletion. Hopefully, we can put the wikipage back and edit it to write the article in a factual way. Many thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tatianajames (talkcontribs) 19:02, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

File:MUD Jeans logo.svg

Interested in how this SVG I uploaded can be made smaller as requested. What does it mean for an SVG with no size information to be made smaller? AFAIK it's rendered as large as the browser decides to render it. Liam McM 01:49, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher)That logo seems too simple to be eligible for copyright protection in the US per c:COM:TOO United States and even possibly in its country of origin per c:COM:TOO Netherlands. So, it doesn’t really need to be licensed as {{Non-free logo}} and could be licensed as {{PD-logo}} or at the very least {{PD-ineligible-USonly}} instead. WP:PD files aren’t subject to WP:NFCC and thus aren’t required to meet WP:IMAGERES. — Marchjuly (talk) 02:37, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi FULBERT. Non-free files cannot be used in userboxes per WP:NFCC#9 and WP:UBX#Caution about image use. If you want to use an image related to Lancaster University in that particular userbox, you will need to use one that is either licensed as public domain or has been released under a free license. Perhaps one of the images found in c:Category:Lancaster University would work for you? -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:28, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Marchjuly, Thanks for the explanation as well as for the assistance in finding a logo. Alas, the colleges and unis that are used in the usernboxes usually have some logo or symbol of the institution, and none of the pics of campus and such would really communiacate the college. Not sure how to move this forward given this issue. FULBERT (talk) 18:45, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Where is the proposal or discussion to rename Category:New Jersey Supreme Court justices to Category:Supreme Court of New Jersey justices? I would have strongly objected to that, as it sounds wrong. BD2412 T 00:42, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

@BD2412: There wasn't a discussion. It was listed at WP:CFD/S by Good Olfactory and processed by Ymblanter. — JJMC89 01:13, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
BD2412 I can, in principle, un-process it (by feeding to the bot) assuming Good Olfactory does not object; if they object the easiest is to nominate it for CFD and explain your positions.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:51, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Cardumen Capital Deletion Review

Dear user:

I just realized you deleted the entry I created for Cardumen capital due to the following reason: "Weak delete. There is some sourcing ([1], [2], [3]) but (1) I am not familiar with these papers and (2) even if they are reputable, the coverage seems fairly routine and is not a clear pass of WP:ORGIND". Please let me explain you the reliability of the sources mentioned: Source [1]. Globes is a daily business and financial publication that has been the oldest and largest of its kind in Israel. Approximately two hundred thousand people read "Globes" daily. Source [2]. Israel's leading financial newspaper Calcalist launched an English-language news site dedicated to Israeli tech. or CTech. CTech is a tech news website focused on the Israel's vibrant technology hub. It delivers in-depth coverage of the latest technology trends. Source [3]. El Referente is an information newspaper for entrepreneurs and startups. It was formed by a premature group of communicators, which seeks to bring the reality that surrounds them and interests the youngest people in Spain and the entire World.

The first two sources are really well known and reputed newspapers in Israel. The third source is a smaller newspaper, born in 2009 in Madrid, to cover the startup ecosystem of Spain.

You can google all the information that I just gave you to confirm these facts.

Hope we can put the wiki page back and continue to filled the venture capital ecosystem of Israel in Wikipedia which I noticed was underrepresented.

Many thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alerogue (talkcontribs) 07:06, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

You should have partipated in the discussion instead of waiting until it was closed. What you've stated may address reliability but does not address independence. — JJMC89 21:00, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
hank you for your message. I'm sorry I got into the discussion once it was closed, I did not notice it before. Regarding independence, both Globes and Calcalist are well known national media. I believe both are independent sources according to Wikipedia rules. El Referente, is a younger and smaller newspaper, created to covered the entrepreneur and startup ecosystem in Spain and around the world. The sources are not press releases or newspapers that depend on advertising revenue. I believe that none of the three fall into the category of non-independent sources stated by Wikipedia (Owner, employees, corporate website or press release, sales brochure, competitor's website). I hope we can put the wiki page back. Thank you!! Alerogue (talk) 11:05, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
They are redressed PR. The second is basically a bunch of quotes from the leadership. — JJMC89 02:22, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
I honestly can tell you they are not undercovered PR and I really encourage you to do a quick search on Google. Regarding the second source, Globes, it is one of most popular daily financial newspapers in Israel, founded in the early 1980s. Here, all English speakers who work at the tech ecosystem read it to keep track of the Israel's business arena. Globes has about 45,000 subscribers representing Israel's elite in management, investment, technology ,marketing, etc. Alerogue (talk) 06:43, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
I'm not going to search for anything. The popularity of a source is not relevant. — JJMC89 23:42, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
It's not popularity what we are discussing. Firstable, you claimed the sources were not independent and I explained you that articles 1 and 2 were coming from strong national independent newspapers really well known in Israel. About the 3 source, it was coming from a smaller newspaper but also independent and not depending on advertising revenue. In second place, as explained, any of them are redressed PR. Calcalist and Globes both have an entry in Wikipedia I encourage you to visit. I hope this info helps. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alerogue (talkcontribs) 15:00, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
That does not make the references independent. Whether there is a Wikipedia article about the publisher is irrelevant. — JJMC89 03:35, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
I know that doesn't make the references independant. I didn't say it does, I was only providing you with more information. I already explained why the references I selected are independent according to Wikipedia in my previous messages. Hope this helps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alerogue (talkcontribs) 07:37, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Then you are wasting my time. Nothing you have said here makes them independent. — JJMC89 06:38, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

RfA vote

I saw your revert of my vote at Ajpolino's RfA. Would you mind if my vote will still be allowed? I edited that page just less than ten minutes before its scheduled closing time, and Maxim has not yet closed that RfA when I opened the edit window. It appeared that I placed my vote at 13:03 UTC, which is also when he closed the RfA. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 06:15, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Why would I revert it if I didn't mind? Your !vote wasn't considered when the discussion was closed, so it shouldn't be added in as if it were. — JJMC89 06:37, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
How about this? The closure there was premature, but a late vote was still allowed to stand. The difference between my vote and Maxim's closure was less than one minute, and I have not seen the closure before I placed my vote. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 07:13, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Ajpolino's was not closed early. The fact that you didn't see the close is irrelevant. The closer would have needed to consider your position, which clearly didn't happen. — JJMC89 07:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

JJMC, that vote was within the seven-day time stamp (13:03 is the time I transcluded the RFA) to close and probably should be included, due to edit conflict. I left a message for Maxim yesterday about restoring it, but they have not yet edited. Please stop edit warring over something that Maxim can resolve. Face of mankind wrongful bot edit

There was an incorrect edit of the old game Face of Mankind it was reversed by a member of the community and I told them I'd look into the edit

The edit was done by JJMC89 bot III

Face of Mankind was a first and third-person massively multiplayer online action role playing game (MMORPG) set in a futuristic persistent world, controlled by the almighty Seraph. The game is played from a variety of points of view. It was designed to emphasize roleplay and community, using a faction system and player-driven politics. It was developed by German studio Duplex Systems.

controlled by the almighty Seraph. is incorrect and should not be added and was reversed unsure if your bot had incorrect information or not. However, you did upset old members of the community who from time to time ensure that the Wikipedia page is accurate just wanted to make you aware. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daddysds1 (talkcontribs) 20:39, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher)@Daddysds1:. I don't think JJMC89 bot III re-added that information to the article because (1) that's not what the bot is set up to do and (2) it was clearly re-added with this edit made by a different editor more than three months before the bot made its edit. The edit made by the bot can be seen here any only had to do with replacing a deleted category.
I'm not sure who the old members of the community are that you're referring to, but nobody on or outside of Wikipedia WP:OWNs an article. Any member of the Wikipedia community such as yourself can freely edit the article or discuss any issues they find with the article on its corresponding talk page. So, if "controlled by the almighty Seraph" is incorrect, then start a discussion about it on the article's talk page and see what others think. If nobody responds in a few days, then you can be WP:BOLD or seek input from WT:VIDEOGAME. If you do the latter and nobody still responds, then you can just be WP:BOLD and make the change you think is appropriate and leave an edit summary clearly explaining why (even mention the talk page discussion you started).
Disagreements over content are expected to be resolved per Wikipedia:Dispute resolution, not edit warring; so, if you establish a WP:CONSENSUS that it should be in the article, other editors will be expected to respect that consensus or establish a new consensus that it should. This consensus needs to be established among Wikipedia editors according to Wikipedia policies and guidelines, not outside Wikipedia among fans of the game. On the other hand, if you or others simply keep removing the content each time it's re-added without providing and Wikipedia policy or guideline based reason why, you run the risk of having your edits reverted as possible disruption. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:16, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

JJMC89 bot question

Just a quick question about JJMC89 bot. Some non-free files were added to List of micronations with this edit and your bot picked up on that and removed some files with this edit; the bot, however, did notice these files (here and here). Is there something about the wikidate of those files that caused the bot to not remove them? -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:03, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Bus image

Hi JJMC, Many thanks for linking to WP:NFLISTS which I had no idea existed,
Just for future reference - List of buses shouldn't contain any non-free images tho should they as these aren't discussed in detail and or they're not a representative visual reference for other elements in the article so there's basically no justification for non-free files in that article?,

@Phil Fish: You could reach out to them at User talk:PauBatlleV; however, they haven't edited in over a year. As for fixing the links in mass, it depends on how the URL changed. Is there a direct mapping between the old and new ones? — JJMC89 07:10, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
