If you've come here with an AFD or PROD warning on an article created by myself, strong chances are it can be expanded. Please do a vigorous search for potential sources on the web and in google books first before approaching me and respect WP:BEFORE. If you've looked for sources and genuinely can't find any you're excused. As for defending articles at AFD or becoming involved with talk page disputes, my new motto is Mark Twain's: “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
What You Obviously Didn't Know...

As I no longer contribute to the main page DYK, from August 2019 I've put up a few here of recent work for fun. Feel free anybody to further improve them!

Das ist ein schönes weißes Pferd!

I'd like to continue what doesn't belong in one article's talk page discussion. Please leave me alone with the German Wikipedia. It's inferior in referencing, - when you simply translate what they offer, your articles end in Draft space, just look at User talk:LouisAlain#Philharmonia Quartet Berlin moved to draftspace. I just translated de:Katrin Lea Tag, and of the 3 references I found one not working and the other 2 dead links. She created set and costumes for this. The German Wikipedia is also inferior in offering at-a-glance infomation to the handicapped and idiots. I know why I'm here and not there. I am sorry you take your book to the library, - not what I intended. I just wanted to avoid disappointment later on. I want to improve Louis Vierne for his birthday in a week, and just found a biography - on his list of works, of all places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:59, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

I sent five or six books I had back. I was toying with the idea of working on it leading up to Christmas but the nonsense with Sinatra convinced me to never edit a core biography again. You even said that you worry about articles being improved and the infoboxes being removed in the process so you don't have to worry now. You may as well add an ibox to Rod Steiger and Claudia Cardinale now, save the hassle later as it's inevitable they'll be hit again soon enough. GermŮan Wiki from what I've seen is a lot more consistent than us on articles which matter at least, but the articles often look bland and "mechanical" and could really use a lot more pictures at times. The prose is often difficult to read through, but that might just me my basic German reading skills at present!† Encyclopædius 14:27, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
I agree that Sinatra was nonsense and a pure waste of time. - Repeating: I don't add infoboxes where I think they are not welcome, ever. So only to articles I improve (and sometimes not even then, see Penderecki, for respect of other editors), or where I expect no conflict, such as for compositions and operas. - German, I agree again, the prose is often a bit academic, and I hate their one-liners for leads. That's supposed to be fair, and is unfair by treating a little thing exactly like a masterpiece. Interesting: they have fine consistent info on operas, such as de:Salome (Oper). Don't miss the video in the Katrin Lea Tag article (at the end). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:43, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Ohne Wahnsinn. - (I said something similar on top of my talk - below the TOC, DYK?) - Musik, - "bezauberte", wrote a critic about the recent Mendelssohn, - this video is older, and the YT in the article comes with a Bach encore, as for us on our National holiday 2020, the day before Erntedankfest, sort of Thanksgiving, but simpler. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:46, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Weise Worte!

I read progress, great! For weise Worte consult Ray's Rules if you haven't - end of the New Year's resolutions on my talk, - you mentioned something similar recently ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:38, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Neue Jahre? Wo ist das?† Encyclopædius 08:44, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Neujahr, we call it. On my talk, in the box below User talk:Gerda Arendt#A barnstar for you! - thanks in 2019, visions in 2020, last item, - or just search for "Ray's Rules". They worked well for all of 2019. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:26, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
St. Jacobi, Werther is one of "my" places, DYK? Those you find when you click on "October" above the apples. Some are still red links. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:49, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: 19:36 ZDF Heute Journal says "Fakten", I thought you said "Fakt" isn't used?† Encyclopædius 11:48, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

"Fakten" (plural) yes, "Fakt" (singular) no for me, but young people may handle that differently, language is changing, and many things are taken over from English. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:56, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

16 October memories --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:54, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Nándor Szenkár. Ich werde bald einen Artikel erstellen. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Der Zug ist schon abgefahren! Schön sie kennen zulernen! Darf ich mal vorbei! Sind das genaue Sprüche?† Encyclopædius 06:50, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Danke! Schön, Sie kennenzulernen! Darf ich mal vorbeikommen! Sind das richtige Sätze? - "genau" rather means precise not correct, and Spruch is rather proverb/idiom than sentence. - Thank you for good comment to Br'er eight years (and a day) ago. Enjoy the leftover apples that Darwinbish missed to steal. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:49, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
--Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:45, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Sehr nett! "Schön" is eines meiner deutschen Lieblingswörter! Schön - nice/beautiful. Schon = already. Ziemlich verwirrend!

Sehr gut! "... als in drei Jahren Schule" is what you'd say, but yours will be understood. - Look here for "My Way" ;) - I just noticed that one of my GAs was started by you, Le Laudi. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:39, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Uitstekende uitbreiding!

LOL, seems so odd having ist on the end!† Encyclopædius 12:22, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt:

  • Our London correspondent Diana Zimmermann shows some cases that just make for more than British serene frowning. The decidedly shell aftertaste in the already troubled and rich fight of the British against the virus.

Können Sie korrigieren? Danke.† Encyclopædius 12:41, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aan tafel closedEdit

Hi Encyclopædius, Aan tafel has been deleted. Just thought I'd reach out in case you did want to create a new article on the restaurant by the same name. (I haven't looked into its notability etc, but just leaving this here as a courtesy in case you don't have it watchlisted). --TheSandDoctor Talk 03:49, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

The restaurant is probably doable, but there's certainly more notable Dutch restaurants missing.. I might do some work on Dutch restaurants soon as part of my language work.† Encyclopædius 11:40, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Francis PhipsEdit

Notice

The article Francis Phips has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I could barely find any information about him except this PDF which purports to be a chapter of a book. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me find any information on the book, so there's no way to know if it's reliable - yes it's published on a Historical Society website, but that's basically self-publishing, especially if we have no idea who wrote it! So basically, this is a failure of WP:V and we can't keep it without reliable sourcing.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC(talk) 20:58, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
