Eriksson began his political career in [[Kalix]], [[Norrbotten]], where he was Municipal Commissioner from 1999 to 2004. He was also [[List of members of the Riksdag|member]] of the [[Parliament of Sweden|Riksdag]] 1994–1998 and 2002–2014.
 
Between 2002 and 2011, Eriksson was one of the two [[spokesperson]]s (leaders) of the [[Green Party (Sweden)|Green Party]] in [[Sweden]], working alongside [[Maria Wetterstrand]].
