Instanton effects are important in understanding the formation of condensates in the vacuum of [[quantum chromodynamics]] (QCD) and in explaining the mass of the so-called 'eta-prime particle', a Goldstone-boson which has acquired mass through the axial current [[anomaly]] of QCD.
