MediaWiki talk:Globalblocking-blocked

Mention of secure.wikimedia.orgEdit

A number of users have ISP or national level proxies blocked, but can connect to the secure server and bypass it.

On IRC, earlier, a user with what appears to be an ISP cache proxy had a similar issue: The ISP proxy was blocked, but he could edit by logging into secure.wikimedia directly (bypassing the ISP proxy). Also, programs such as GWA use cache or accelerating proxies to try to enhance performance.

Do we want to make a mention of this here to avoid many of the issues like those that show up on m:User talk:Shizhao? Kylu (talk) 05:13, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Edit requestEdit

I think we should specify "all Wikimedia wikis", not just "all wikis." Wikimedia has no control over MediaWiki installations it does not operate.Jasper Deng (talk) 02:49, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

A little request...Edit

{{Edit protected}}

For consistency with MediaWiki:Blockedtext, I think:

"You can still read pages, but cannot edit, change, or create them."

should be changed to what MediaWiki:Blockedtext is like.

"You can still read pages, but you cannot edit, move, or create them."

A bit little requestEdit

I think this interface needs improvement, maybe can you improve the interface with this? Thank you. --MW3 Warrior (talk) 07:15, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

I think this improvement would help.--Bmusician 04:59, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Edit requestsEdit

  • "Editing from your IP address or IP address range has been disabled on all Wikimedia wikis" --> "Editing from $5 has been blocked (disabled) on all Wikimedia wikis"
  • Remove the talk page link - global blocking revokes talk page access: "To request unblock, visit your talk page and add the text {{unblock|Global block — REASON}}. Replace "REASON" with the reason for requesting unblock." --> "To request unblock, visit meta:Steward Requests/Global and leave an unblock request"

I've taken out the secure login. I'm not sure about your first request - it could be confusing to people as they might not necessarily know that the string of numbers there is referring to their IP address. And I'm not sure if Wikipedia:Blocking policy really applies here since that page is about local blocks. On m:Global blocks it says 'Blocked users are usually allowed to edit their own talk pages.' Tra (Talk) 00:21, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
The first one was granted for MediaWiki:Blockedtext (you don't have to link the local policy part); as for the third one, I run an instance of GlobalBlocking myself, and talk page access is, contrary to what it says on Meta, revoked.Jasper Deng (talk) 00:26, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll put the request back up, but at this time of night I'm too tired to put it in right now. As a note to me or whoever implements this, the link to steward requests needs a lowercase r. Tra (Talk) 02:50, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
I've done the changes. I also noticed that it left some duplicate links so I shuffled some things around to avoid that. I also removed the link to WP:GB since it seems to duplicate the material found on other pages linked from there. Tra (Talk) 18:11, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Protected edit request on 18 July 2016Edit

Replace <div style="clear: both;" /> with <div style="clear: both;" ></div> to fix self-closed tag error. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:55, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
