This is a list of presidents of Brazil, in order of longevity. There are currently thirty-six Presidents on the list and seven living Presidents since Jair Bolsonaro was inaugurated as the 38th President of Brazil on January 1, 2019. The list is in descending order and is correct as of July 1, 2020. The oldest president is Venceslau Brás (1868–1966), who died at the age of 98 years, 78 days. The oldest living former president, José Sarney (born April 24, 1930), will tie Venceslau Brás if he lives to July 11, 2028. The second oldest living former president, Fernando Henrique Cardoso (born June 18, 1931), will also tie Brás if he lives to September 4, 2029.

The president with the longest retirement is Venceslau Brás. He left office on 14 November 1918 and died 47 years and 182 days later on 15 May 1966. The president with the shortest retirement is Artur da Costa e Silva, who died on 17 December 1969, 64 days after he left office on 14 October 1969.

To account for the different number of leap days within the life of each president, two measure of longevity are given. The first is the number of whole years the president lived, and the number of days past their last birthday. The second list the total number of days lived by the president, accounting for differing numbers of leap years within the lifespans of different presidents.

Oldest living presidents of BrazilEdit

Not all presidents live to become the oldest of their time. Of the 29 deceased presidents, 14 eventually became the oldest of their time, while 15 did not (including both presidents who died in office, and 13 others). Venceslau Bras became the oldest living president when Epitácio Pessoa died in 1942 and remained so until his death in 1966, for a record 24 years and 91 days. Juscelino Kubitschek became the oldest living president after the death of Gaspar Dutra but he survived Dutra by only 2 years and 72 days.

On one occasion the oldest living president lost this distinction not by his death, but due to the inauguration of a president who was older. Prudente de Morais lost this distinction when Campos Sales was inaugurated in 1898.

Gaspar Dutra was the oldest to acquire this distinction at the age of 82 years, and 362 days. Washington Luis, who was 87 years, and 282 days old when he died, on 4 August 1957 was the oldest president to die without ever acquiring this distinction. Itamar Franco, who died on 2 July 2011, at 81 years and 4 days old is the most recent president to die without ever acquiring this distinction.
