Red Spruce Picea rubens and wetland vegetation in Balsam Swamp, Pinchot State Forest, Lackawanna County.

Balsam Swamp is one of many high-elevation boreal conifer bogs on the Pocono Plateau. Trees not common to Pennsylvania—balsam fir, tamarack, black spruce, and others—thrive here.
